Town Hall Meeting

9:00 am February 3, 2009

in the Community Center

by Billie Hering

Some rain must fall!  I had just decided that I enjoy these meetings so much because they are so upbeat and we find out all the wonderful things that we are doing in and for our park. Well, this month we learned of a few not so wonderful things happened here and even a few wonderful things that few are planning to help with or even attend.

From Jim, our manager – First, Jim asked us to look around the Activity Center and admire all the improvements our volunteers are making. We now have chair rails and the sound booth looks really spiffy. He then reread a [July 08] letter we received from the Pinal County Sheriff explaining that the deputies will be using their office in our park to write reports, etc. and are not available to us at these times. We enjoy having law enforcement presence here, makes us all feel safe.

Now some bad news. We still have people going through the gates in the wrong direction. Even golf carts and bicycles must adhere to the enter and exit rules. We don’t want to mop up a bad accident just because someone feels he/she is exempt from the rules. Also do not unplug the gate for any reason (some people have been doing this for private parties, etc.). It causes extra work for maintenance and leaves our park more vulnerable to unwanted visitors.
We are still having problems with dog poop in our trash area (wonder if it is our animals or strays just wandering in). Please always pick up after your animals and remember no dogs in trash area.
We are trying to comply with our 10 year rule for RVs coming into the park. Private owners must also comply. Only the manager (or his appointee) can make exceptions!

Good news now. How about the fix on our entrance road. The board got a really good buy on the material and road is now nice and smooth. The company will continue to improve our road when they have extra material.
The pool temperature is now a constant 86-87 degrees and the hot tub is staying at 104 degrees.

Howard Caires – Property Committee.  There is stealing going on in the Activity Building! We are missing 3 exercise bikes, 17 chairs, a table from the laundry room, and several of the easy chairs that were in the TV area. Please, if you borrowed any of these, return them. And if you ever need to borrow any park property, please check it out with the property committee or the manager. Building is locked by the last person out each night and opened by our custodian in the morning and this arrangement seems to be working. Most likely furniture was removed during the day.
There is a new bar in the Club House laundry room – it is for hanging clothes and not an exercise bar. There is also one planned for the Activity Center laundry room along with a new built-in table for folding clothes.
.
Vera – Kitchen. We are serving breakfast, lunch and dinner now. We need more participation – attendance seems to be falling off. Don’t forget Banana Splits ($3.00, please sign up) this Sunday. Valentine Dinner Dance is $17.50/person and includes and 8 ounce portion of prime rib with all the trimmings served to you at your table and followed by dancing.

Avril – Welcome Center.  Slow down!! We are speeding through the gate when we enter the park, please be careful and go slowly. Please, also, try to pay your bills before 4:45pm, Welcome Center helpers must close up and they would like to leave at 5:00pm. Thanks.

Mary Ann – Medical and Fire Responders. Medical team has new leaders for next season, Howard Caires-Chairman, Ron Stockall-Vice Chairman, and Kolleen Apger-Secretary. Currently we have 28 pagers out – this includes both medical and fire responders.
Don’t forget the Health Fair on February 18th – it looks to be something we don’t want to miss.
Also on March 11th there will be a CPR class. This is opened to the public and limited to 10 people. Cost is $30.00.

Dale – Maintenance. We are continuing to replace old stand pipes with new PVC ones. So far we have done 18 of them. Weed season is starting, please check your property (or have your caretaker check it) often and let’s keep our weeds under control.  Also the 911 lines are all in; we now have lines in the Activity Building, Club House, Community Center, and Pool Area.
Maintenance is now computerized! We are getting all our records, etc. onto the computer. Our email address is:  maintenance@sunscapervresort.com.
Our maintenance staff attended a 3 to 4 hour swimming pool seminar recently in Florence.  Looks like our pool will be top of the line now, but please keep all band aids out of the water; they will foul up the filter system.

Glenda – Finance. Audit is finished and ready for the Annual Board Meeting on February 9th. We are working on the 2010 budget. Our next meeting will be February 10th.

Jack Cox – Neighborhood Watch. Our meeting will be at 2:00pm this afternoon. Wild Horse has had 7 break ins and burglaries and is establishing their own Neighborhood Watch. Let’s keep Sunscape safe by all being good neighbors.

Alicia – Activities Twenty-nine people attended and cheered at our Super Bowl Party. Desert Country Musicians had 92 attend, Hired Hands had 84. There have not been many tickets sold for Freddie and Sheila. If we don’t support these groups, they may stop coming. No one came to our last Park Party Meeting. We may not be able to have a party this year if we can’t get help. I believe there will be another meeting this Friday. Check with Alicia to be sure. By the way, Glenda mentioned that Park Party funds paid for the new Welcome Center – that’s $52,000.00, folks! Let’s all get out and support our park.
