First a little disclaimer again - these are my notes (and possibly a bit of my opinion and my feelings) about the meeting. It is an informal affair and I thought I would like to share with those of you that couldn't attend some of what went on. Thanks - Billie
From Jim, our manager - Jim welcomed us all back to SUNNY, WARM Arizona (we won't talk about what the outside temperature was). He said after years of trying to fix the heater in the pool, they finally figured out what the real problem was. The 2 inch gas main was rusted out and gone (we're lucky we still have a pool and a Club House - where was all the gas going?) Anyway, the main was replaced and pool temperature is now between 86 and 90 degrees and hot tub is at 104 degrees. Hurray!!
New tile is going into the Clubhouse - The new tile floor will probably be finished by the end of the week. It will really look wonderful. Thanks fellas, great job.
Increase in trash pick up prices - prices went from $36.00/ton to $45.00/ton. Increase will be on the Finance Committee agenda this afternoon. [Note: It was mentioned at the January 8 BOD meeting that the price increase does not apply to Sunscape. -ed.]
Landscaping around the park - Get over and admire the new trees planted at the Welcome Center. We lost our big Saguaro during a wind storm. Jim and Toma Chesness are looking for a replacement. Whole park is looking great - thanks Jim and Toma and all others who work on landscaping.
Vera - Kitchen. We served 112 at our Christmas dinner and 108 for New Year's Day brunch. We hope to maybe have another brunch on Easter Sunday. Remember we are now serving lunch on Thursdays from 11:30 to 1:00 (that's dinner - $6.00 on Tuesdays, lunch - $3.00 on Thursday, breakfast on Friday and Cinnamon and Pecan rolls on Saturday).
Alicia - Activities. Don't forget Hired Hands on January 9th and the Plate Nachos at $5.00 to benefit all the shelter animals that are also feeling our economic pinch. Also the Roadrunner Band will perform on January 18th. In the works is a Valentine Day's Dinner and Dance and an overnight trip to Laughlin. We are also trying to book a family act into the park the beginning of February.
Sunny - Ambassadors. The ambassadors visited 8 guests in December and 2 new members. They are looking for about 3 new members.
Dale - Maintenance. We have established a preventative maintenance program for all the park equipment (let's keep it working and not always wait for problems to develop) and are slowly building up a parts inventory. We are slowly replacing the rusted stand pipes throughout the park, this is an ongoing project. Also, if you notice anything in the park that needs attention, please tell the manager.
Mary Ann - Medical Responders. We are still looking for a new chairperson for next season. The Health Fair will be February 18th from 10:00-12:00 am. Vial of life forms and jars are available at the Welcome Center for $2.00. Team responded to 4 emergencies last month. Please read the article in the Sunscaper regarding friends wanting to help in emergencies. Jim mentioned that we now have 911 phones in both the Activity Building and the Club House and are working on getting one at the pool - thanks to Wayne Scramstad.
Avril - Welcome Center. Please, please remember to come in the entrance and go out the exit. And also please get and display window stickers on your vehicles. The Welcome Center is now opened all day. Jim mentioned that the sheriffs have been in the park very often, both using their office and touring the park.
Jack Cox - Neighborhood Watch. There will be no meeting this month. Next meeting will be at
2:00 pm on the first Tuesday in February. Thanks to all, keep up the good work and remember to just be aware!Judy Conley - Activities. The New Year's Eve party was a howling success. Remember that the Activity Committee meets every other week on Wednesday at 1:00 pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
Howard Caires - Property and also Nominating Committee. At this point Howard introduced the candidates for the 4 open board positions and turned the meeting over to them.
