Neighborhood Block Watch Meeting

December 2, 2008 at 2:00 pm

Community Center

The meeting was called to order at 2:05 pm by Jack Cox our Block Watch Captain.

Jack reviewed some preventative measures we can use to protect our homes from burglars. Burglars like easy targets so be sure your home and our park are not easy targets. Most importantly:

Be a Good Neighbor – this includes not only watching out for the people in your area, but also putting a sticker on your car so we know your car belongs in the park and wearing your nametag when you are out and about in the park so people will know you belong in the park. You should inform the Welcome Center if you are having visitors and/or meet your visitor at the gate and escort them into the park

Light your way at night – please put lights on your bicycle so we can see you coming at night. It is a very good idea to wear light color clothing and carry a flashlight when out walking after dark.

Don’t blink your car lights at night – if you are driving anywhere at night do not blink your headlights at another vehicle for any reason. Someone may take offense and react badly or gangs may be on the lookout for someone to attack.

Howard Caires asked if we have block captains at Sunscape. Jack said that we are trying to be an informal watch area. Just make sure when you are out that you keep your eyes open and report anything you see that is out of the ordinary and is bothering you. If you are patrolling in your golf cart, carry a flashlight, pencil and paper, and a cell phone if you have one,

Sonny Stimmel asked about the block watch signs. We have a sign on the entrance road, the entrance gate, and the back gate. We hope to get a sign for the exit gate. We have smaller signs that will go in your window, on your golf cart, or you may laminate them and use them on the perimeter lots (especially on the gates).

Since the sheriff and his tazar demonstration was not available, the meeting was adjourned at 2:25 pm
