Town
Hall Meeting
March 2,
2010
First, a personal note: Remember these are just my notes
about the meeting, they are not minutes.
From Manager Dale:
The Pool is Done!! Thanks to the hard work of our
wonderful Sunscapers the major pool facelift is now complete. Pool and hot tub
now meet all of the State and County regulations. Pool is at a constant 87o
and hot tub is maintaining a constant 104o.The pool speakers have
been moved to the clothing rack so music, etc. can be heard at the pool and not
at other places. The newly installed solar heaters are 18% more efficient so we
will use much less gas. Thanks everyone!
Septic System: To find the tank we had to dig down
about 4-5 feet, next we had to use jack hammers to cut through 16 inches of
concrete and then we finally got to the important stuff that was inside the
tank. Now we are able to pump not only the liquid from the tanks but also the
solids. Tanks were refitted so lid is now at ground level and tank will be easy
to keep clean.
Speed limits, stop signs and pet
problems: We are
getting better at obeying the rules and even at picking up after our pets. Keep
up the good work and remember we will be reminded again next month.
Recycling: We made over $100.00 last month and
saved the world from about 13 cubic yards of new trash in our landfills.
Remember to break down boxes before you put them into the containers (if you
cannot break them down, please leave them beside container for maintenance to
handle).
A few words from JoAnn: This is the last busy month for the season.
Saturday will be the last Craft Fair and it promises to be a big one. We have
scheduled two field trips to the jail, one on March 8th and one on
March 19th.
Park Party kicks off with the Luau on Wednesday,
March 10th. Many events
happen on March 11th then there are golf cart races and the amazing
challenge on Friday, March 12th. Party ends with a street dance
Friday night featuring our own disk jockey, Catfish Jack. Don’t miss this great
annual event!
Please pick
up and fill out your survey sheets so we will know how to plan next season’s
activities. We are also looking for a few folks that can plan some summer
events for those of us who are braving the heat and staying for the summer.
We hear from Vera: We had 130 attend the Board of
Directors Appreciation Dinner. We are still having some great meals so remember
to come for dinner on Tuesdays, lunch on Thursdays, and breakfast on Fridays.
Get your tickets or sign up for the hamburger lunch at the Park Party on
Thursday, March 11th.
More from Dale –
Before you Leave:
Please turn in any park keys before you leave for the summer. And remember
weeds on your lot are your responsibility. If you give Dale the name of your
lot caretaker, he will know who to contact if weeds get out of control.
Deadline to turn in your ballad is
April 8th.
Drop it at the Welcome Center.
Do not change or remove the lot
markers: You will be
charged to resurvey if markers are lost or moved.
Welcome Center: We are looking for a few volunteers
with some computer experience to work mornings from 9:00 to 12:00.during the
summer.
Park History:
Pat Steele gave a brief presentation about the Park History that she and
Millie Boone are working hard to complete. She also surveyed the audience to
see if we would be willing to buy the history booklet when it is printed. We
gave her an overwhelming YES.
Safety Lighting: J.J. Schmidt from the Security and Safety
Committee spoke about Security Lights in the park. Seems we have three choices
to consider.
One – Do nothing.
We will become a crime hot spot. This means more break-ins, higher insurance
rates, and fewer visitors to our park. The Sheriff believes that this is not
good. option
Two –
Volunteer lighting. Leave the power on when you go for the summer. Cost to you
can be less than $15.00/month. That way to Globe lights (you know the nice friendship
lights in your front yard) will continue to come on at night. And putting in a movement
censor light at the back of your home is a very good idea. By the way, we have
a few Globe lights left and you can get one for $30.00.
Three –
Install security lighting along the south side of the park. These would be low voltage
motion sensor lights that would be put behind the fence. Cost for this system
could be about $3000.00 to $4000.00 and we would slightly increase the park’s
power bill during the summer months.
The Manager
and the Committees will continue to research the park safety lighting.
