Emergency Response Committee
Medical Team Meeting
December 14, 2011
MinutesCall to order at 0900 by Lee Apger, Co-Chair. Roll call was by sign-in. Minutes from the November meeting were approved as read.
Old Business:
1)Health Fair:
Ede Trokels, Chris Apger, Carmel Kehler, and Barb Amundson volunteered to assist Kolleen with vendor notifications, door-prize acquisition, and follow-up thank-you notes after the Fair.
2) Merger with Fire Team:
The BOD Liaison stated there has been no action, as the form was returned to our previous BOD Liaison. There is still no BOD decision regarding the "Fire Department."Review of call-outs:
1) IF there is a head injury, even if seemingly minor, and the patient is on a blood thinning medication, urge them to seek medical attention to rule out clot formation inside the skull.
2) Discussion regarding the accident caused by a piece of exercise equipment. It has since been removed from service.
3) Review of the AED report from a call-out December 2, 2011. CPR is to be done with 30 compressions, 2 breaths. The "count" is done by the member doing the compressions. Information about breathing-barriers on the cart was discussed. It was also decided that there would be a debriefing at the Chairman's home, Lee Apger-lot 181, after a call necessitating the use of CPR and the AED.New Business:
1) Medical cart is now stored in the garage in front of the fire truck. To open the door, release the chain from its bracket, and the door will virtually lift itself.
2) In January, Fire Team members usually go around to check fire extinguishers. Medical Team members need to also go around ensuring that residents have Vial-of-Life forms which are current.
3) Sign-up for Bloodmobile which will also be here February 15th.
4) Review policy of not giving out private information about our calls.
5) Ede and Ron brought up information about "singles" and both alert systems available and a possible "adopt-a-neighbor" program.
(add to agenda for January meeting)
6) There have been concerns from residents about our "speeding" when responding to daytime call-outs. Lee has some bright orange flags to carry; also, remember to put on your vest (it's a clue!).
7) CPR/AED and first-aid recertification for this year needs to be scheduled. Please let Lee know is yours is up this year.
Respectfully submitted,
Kolleen Apger, Secretary
