SUNSCAPE RV RESORT

Medical Committee Meeting

March 5, 2008

The Medical Committee met at the Conference Room at 9:00. Attending were: Ron Anderson, Richard Anderson, Joyce Bingenheimer, Howard Caires, Duane Fisher, Bruce Garman, Pat Gernon, Isobel Gordon, Dennis Harvey, Lou Hicks, Damon Hillery, Lorna Hillery, Betty Livingston, Ron Stockall, Mary Ann Fender, and Neal Wehmer, Board Liaison. Absent was Sandy Kuroski.

A group picture was taken by Sue Wehmer. This will be displayed on the committee wall in the Clubhouse as well as on the website so that residents

know who we are.

Neal Wehmer was introduced and stated what he thought his role as liaison should include and asked for any input as to what the committee expect-ations were. He acts as a communication line to the Board to assist with the committee needs and problems.

Along with the budget funds requested, the Medical Committee has a donation account that residents have given appreciation amounts to cover items that we may want not covered by budget funding. The balance in that account is $207.58 after a donation to the Red Cross from us. A question was given to the group if they wanted to have tee shirts identifying them as on the medical team and they felt that the newly issued safety vests were sufficient identification.

There is also a Medical Equipment Refurbishing account with a balance of $129.25, for use in repair of the medical equipment checked out to residents. These monies have come from the Jammers.

A charter is being developed for this group as we are now a free standing committee. The initial rough draft was given to members for input on it. This will state our objectives, measurements of goals, the process and a reporting mechanism to the Board.

Medical supplies are being ordered and restocked. A new ointment will be available for use but not stored on the cart due to the heat of summer.

A practice scenario to walk through a potential medical event will be held at 9 am on March 17th. A few days later that will be an impromptu scenario to have responders go through it after the practice one. Next year will be time for the majority of our members to recertify in CPR so we will project the budget needs to cover that.

We are still having problems with the calls from the 911 Dispatchers. They are training 20 new dispatchers and we have had problems with them not knowing how to call us. The Supervisor is going to set up times that they will set off a call to our pagers. The goal is they become better trained and that our system will be working properly thereby avoiding the critical time lag we have experienced. A call during our meeting did not come through properly and was brought to our attention by a park member and we then responded.

We do have some residents in our park that have various medical conditions that may impede their call for assistance. Lorna knows one such couple and will give them the Vial of Life forms so that their medical information will be available without problems in an emergency. We are intending to identify any of our residents who require special needs, especially if the main care-

giver becomes incapacitated. We will speak with them to find out their actual problems before we have a medical emergency.

A question was asked if we were going to have further car window etching sessions by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department. It is felt that this is not a medical problem and it will be deferred to the Safety Committee for future scheduling.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Ann Fender, Medical Team Chairman
