Our function is an interim help when there is a medical emergency as our ambulance response time varies from 15 to 35 minutes. Time is critical with administering CPR and defibrillation, stopping bleeding and getting help. We often are the ones that call the ambulance as well as going to the gate and Eleven Mile Corner Road to make sure that the ambulance can get to and into the park without any further delay. We have from 15 to 25 calls per year with a wide variety of problems that we have assisted with. Just this season we were able to get a newer golf cart that carries our supplies to the scene. DESCRIPTION AND MISSION The Medical Committee is composed of members performing in a lay capacity, with a chairman elected by the committee and approved by the Sunscape Board of Directors (BOD). Monthly reports are given to the BOD by the chairman or designate. The chairman also oversees the supplies on the medical cart with restocking as needed, conducts monthly meetings, schedules necessary training, and ensures that individual member pagers are in working order. The chairman functions as a department head and is a member of the Management Team designed to address issues involving more than one committee. The objective of the committee is to provide medical and supportive assistance to the Park’s residents until professional medical personnel arrive. Any medical treatments provided shall be those needed to save life and render necessary first aid, and are therefore covered by applicable Good Samaritan Act(s). The goals of the Medical Committee are:
The emergency calls will be documented for each incident, on forms providing information regarding the date and time, nature and disposition of call, and members responding. The forms are retained by the chairman for record-keeping and review. A monthly report is given to the Manager.
