Medical Team Charter

The Medical Team is comprised of lay and medical persons performing in a lay capacity. A trained medical person shall be the chairman of the medical aspect of the Response Team. Monthly reports to the Board of Directors will be presented by the Chairman or designated member. The Chairman will also oversee the supplies on the Medical Cart and restock as needed, conduct monthly meetings and/or training, and insure that the pagers are in good working order.

The Chairman anticipates functioning as a department head, participating on a management team designed to address issues involving more than one department.

The objective of this team is to provide emergency medical and supportive assistance to the park's residents until an ambulance arrives. The medical treatments shall be those covered by the Good Samaritan Act and required to save life and provide First Aid as needed.

The goal of the Medical Team is to have:

Response time under 3 minutes.
Number of responders greater than 6 all year.
Regular attendance to meetings and calls by members.
100% of members certified in CPR and First Aid

The emergency calls will be documented for each incident on the forms provided describing the time, date and details of the incident plus the members responding to the call. Copies of completed forms will then be submitted to the Park Manager and the Medical Team Chairman for recordkeeping and review.

Function: The Medical Response Team along with the Fire Response Team have about 26 people carrying beepers. They meet at 9 AM on the first Wednesday of the month during the season. During this time we do training, like dressings and splints, defibrillator review as well as some mock scenarios. There are a number of training aids on hand to use including a mannequin, trainer defibrillator, CPR and First Aid videos and a variety of dressing supplies to practice with. The members are CPR/AED trained and a large number have attended First Aid Courses offered here in the park. Some of the members are retired nurses, firemen and policemen but also include lay people that have had training.

Our function is an interim help when there is a medical emergency as our ambulance response time varies from 15 to 35 minutes. Time is critical with administering CPR and defibrillation, stopping bleeding and getting help. We often are the ones that call the ambulance as well as going to the gate and Eleven Mile Corner Road to make sure that the ambulance can get to and into the park without any further delay. We have from 15 to 25 calls per year with a wide variety of problems that we have assisted with. Just this season we were able to get a newer golf cart that carries our supplies to the scene.
